Wahoo's Computer & Internet Tips Newsletter - June 2007In The News This Month... Last month I mentioned that people living along the Fraser River were keeping a close eye on the river for flooding. Well the river did overflow its banks a little more than usual and some people were flooded out but now the river is receding and hopefully it will continue to do so. Anyways, I can honestly say all of my bookkeeping clients are totally caught up!!! Yay! Now I just have to get our books caught up! Isn't that always the way? This month I have included just 1 article for you so you can enjoy the weekend with your father. It is called Hardware Tip - Printer Properties. Hope you enjoy it! That's that. Thanks for reading! Did You Know...?Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, organized the first Father's Day celebration on June 19, 1910, her own father's birthday. The mayor of Spokane and the governor of Washington state officially support the event. Dodd's father, a farmer and Civil War veteran, had been a single father to six young children after the death of his wife. Hardware Tip - Printer PropertiesPrinters come along with many different features and it's a good idea to get to know these features. To get to your printer's properties, go to Start, Control Panel, Printers and Faxes. There you will see a list of all the printers you have installed on your computer. Most times it's just one, but sometimes you may have 2 or more. Find the one you want, click on it to highlight it, then right-click it and select Properties. You will now see a box with six different tabs.
First is the General tab. Under this you will see the full name and the model type of your printer. (For example, mine is an HP Photosmart). Below that, you can look at some of the features of your printer, such as if it's colour capable and the speed it runs at. You can also set your printing preferences and print a test page here. Next is the Sharing tab. This is basically used only if you want to share your printer with another computer. If so, you can choose that option and then read about the drivers needed to do that and so on. Following that is the Ports tab. This is where you set up which port you want your printer to print out of. You can check mark the one you want to use, add a port, delete a port, or configure a port all right there. Next is the Advanced tab. This is where you can set some more of your printing preferences. You can decide when you want your printer available, you can choose to spool your print documents, choose when you want the printing process to start, etc. You can read through everything else there yourself because there's quite a few options to go through. And last but not least, is the Colour Management tab. If you don't have a colour printer or don't use a coloured ink cartridge, you won't have to worry about this one. But if you do, you can go here and set your colour options. You can choose to have your printer automatically print in colour or you can do it manually yourself. You can also work with your colour profiles under this tab. Once you have all of your settings set to the way you want them, just click OK and you'll be done.
