Wahoo's Computer & Internet Tips Newsletter - August 2006In The News This Month... Holy cow! Where did the summer go? It's almost the end of August already?! I have been so busy in our store and catching up a client's books from 2005, I hadn't even noticed the date on the calendar. A lot of people take holidays in the summer. We don't. We take them in June or September when things settle down a bit. Well, I'm going to keep this short seeing as how most of you will be on holidays and away from the connected world. Have a good one! This month I have included 2 articles for your reading enjoyment. They are both tips on envelopes in Word. First one is MS Word Tip - Fast and Efficient Envelope Addressing and the second one is Picture Perfect Envelopes. Hope you enjoy them! That's that. Thanks for reading! Did You Know...?The “you are here” arrow on maps is called an ideo locator. (Is that another word for "idiot"? Inquiring minds want to know.) MS Word Tip - Fast and Efficient Envelope AddressingYou have just finished a very important letter and now need to print an envelope to match it. I'm sure most of us know about the little function in the Tools menu of Word that allows us to go in and address envelopes for printing. You go to Tools menu, Envelopes and Labels choice and on the Envelopes tab you type in your return address at the bottom and the delivery address at the top. Works pretty good, right? But here's a faster, more efficient way to do it. Since there are two pieces of information involved in printing envelopes (return address and delivery address), we need to cover the best way for both. Let's start with the return address: In the Mailing address box at the bottom, you will need to type in your address (or the return address you want to appear on the envelope). Notice that in order to have a name with the return address, you will have to type that here as well. Once you've got the address set, click OK. Now that address will be printed every time you print envelopes. Now for the delivery address. This obviously changes with each envelope you print, so we can't use the same steps as above. You have probably already typed the delivery address in the letter, correct? Then highlight the address, go to the Tools menu, Envelopes and Labels choice. Take a look on the Envelopes tab now. You will notice that the delivery address is already filled in. Now all you have to do is select your envelope size and print. Voila! MS Word Tip - Picture Perfect EnvelopesWhile we're on the subject of envelopes, I thought I would have tip #2 talk about how to add a picture to your envelopes. To begin, you need to go to the Envelopes and Labels window (Tools menu, Envelopes and Labels choice). Once in the window, enter the delivery address as above. Once you have the addresses in, click on the Add to Document button. You will then be returned to your document, but you should see an envelope at the top of the document (before the first page). If you don's see the envelope then you probably are not in the Page Layout or Print Layout view (the name depends on the version of Word you are using) and you need to switch. Go to the View menu and select the correct view from the top section of the menu. Now you can click into the envelope and use the Insert menu, Picture choice to insert the picture of your choice. It can be moved, resized, etc. just like clipart in all Word files. Right clicking on the picture will allow you to adjust its properties in the Format Picture choice. You can also highlight the addresses to change font or text content, using the menus the same as you would for any Word document. For printing just the envelope, make sure you've got the cursor on the envelope and then choose Current Page in the Print window. There you have it! Be creative and have fun!
